Book Club Alert

The very first and exclusive book club meet is finally happening!

Hi readers!

After more than a year of writing on this website, reading like a psycho and sending out a gazillion mails to organizers, it's finally happening!

I am organizing a book club in Mumbai, as per the details mentioned above. You can register for the event here.

There's a reason why I chose 'A Man Called Ove' by Fredrik Backman as the designated book for the first meet is because it is all about the layers and nuances. This book is equally heartwarming and heart wrenching at the same time.

The novel traces the story of reawakening of a grumpy old man frozen by grief, it is about the moments of connection, the ability of people to touch one another’s lives. The story is laced with loneliness, with life's numerous disappointments; the last chapters deliver some unexpectedly savage emotional blows.

No more spoilers. This book is simply moving and thought provoking, brimming with charm, personal wisdom and philosophic insight.

One of the most painful moments in a person’s life probably comes with the insight that an age has been reached when there is more to look back on than ahead. And when time no longer lies ahead of one, other things have to be lived for. Memories, perhaps. Afternoons in the sun with someone’s hand clutched in one’s own. The fragrance of flowerbeds in fresh bloom. Sundays in a café. Grandchildren, perhaps. One finds a way of living for the sake of someone else’s future. Grief is a strange thing.

It would mean the world to me if you could share this event with fellow book nerds in Mumbai and if you are in Mumbai, do join in.

Exciting times ahead!

Warmly,

Bhumika
