On Weekends

Being alone is a comforting feeling. In this hyper-connected world the only respite we experience is on Sundays. What does your weekend look like?

Welcome fellow job loathers! Weekend has become such a luxury these days, ain't it?! Do you have a ritual for weekends as well? Well, here's mine.

The quality of light by which we scrutinize our lives has direct bearing upon the product which we live, and upon the changes which we hope to bring about through those lives. It is within this light that we form those ideas by which we pursue our magic and make it realized.”- Audre Lorde

I use this time to discover and rediscover parts of myself that I haven't properly come to know as yet. On weekdays there are simply too many people to talk to and too many text messages. It feels like my attention has been edged out by the demands of work and the expectations of others.

It feels as if my freedom is being closed down, my mind's ability to wander, to make disparate connections, being molded. The secular pleasure of Sunday isn't simply of relaxation but it carries an opportunity to re-engage with the wider horizons of one's life.

You've got the time to notice how the light is filtering through a gap in the curtains. It's quieter than usual outside. You can dawdle and sing in the bathroom. You don't have to keep up with the clock.

Take this time to disconnect in order to self-connect. Some things that make my Sunday brighter:

1. I haven't watched movies in a long long time, hence I try to watch a movie every Sunday.

2. If you want a social media detox, then Sunday is the perfect day.

3. Learning an advancement in whatever you love doing is purely bliss.

4. Take this time to clear your 'Watch Later' list on YouTube.

5. If you enjoy reading pick a book, light some candles, sip on some tea with acoustic music in the background.

6. Don't forget to journal.

Now, I won't deny that #Sunday is the time to prep your body to face the week ahead with optimism and energy but it is also the time to push yourself to do things you have been delaying all week.

Hence, try to nail the balance and stop slothing around.

P. S. I eat the same breakfast every Sunday to avoid thinking too much and focus on other things. I have a long YT watch later list.

This is overnight #oats and chia seeds with lots of peanut butter, mixed seeds, banana and a cute little fig.

More power to you to get through the week!
